Design of the new postal operator service: 3D print

Technology boom affects all areas of the life. The postal sector has not escaped technological progress and postal operators need to adapt to the difficult situation on the market. They need to bring new services and products that captivate the customers. The time when postal operators was only here for delivery is only a time from past. 3D printing technology allows own design object creation. Objects are created by customers themselves. 3D printer is not a cheap one manufacturing machine. 3D printer is difficult to control and this machine is still under research and development. The paper deals with creation of the new 3D print service. Main focus is on providing financial bonus for the postal operators by initiation of the new service.  Advantages on the side of customer we see especially in cost saving on shipping. Shipping costs are cheaper, because customer do not have to order from a foreign seller of 3D printed products. After reading this paper you will get to know a basic understanding of 3D printers. We divided theoretical knowledge into 3D printing replication processes and types of 3D printers. Replication process was divided into modeling, printing and finishing. We recognize two types of 3D printers, domestic and industrial. The current service chapter is devoted to 3D printing process with a foreign seller. Consequently, we define new service for the postal operator: 3D print. At the end of the paper, we decided to add a case study. We highlight the specific numbers of costs and returns for the seller, the postal operator and the customer. We compare current service with the new service and we infer conclusions. We evaluate return on investment for the postal operator in the event of the new service: 3D print initiation. We note that for a specific postal operator are required further case studies to carry out. Specific conditions depend on the postal operator country of origin and on postal operator customer interests in the 3D print service. Some countries are still intrigued against 3D printing technology.
