Protectionism and its Effects on the Indian Shipping Companies: An overview of Shipping Companies in Vishakhapatnam

Abstract


Trade protectionism is a type of policy that limits unfair competition from foreignindustries. It's a politically motivated defensive measure. In the short run, it works. But it is verydestructive in the long term. It makes the country and its industries less competitive ininternational commerce. This research paper aims to understand the effects of various types ofprotectionism such as quota, tariffs, exchange control and others among shipping companies inVishakapatanam, India. The statistical tool used was descriptive statistics. The research findingsindicate that various methods of protectionism have very high effect on shipping companies inVishakhapatnam whereas few others are found to be moderate to non-effective.
